About uluru kings canyon tour
Most people have heard of Uluru trips, but many don’t know just how vast and difficult the Australian outback is. I’m Paul Beames, and I’ve travelled, camped and driven across this region more times than I can count. Operators like Autopia run regular Uluru trips, but I’ll tell you now — this isn’t just a quick selfie stop. Uluru is not just a monument, it’s an experience that calls for respect, planning and time. From longer trips from Melbourne, to traditional tours of Ayers Rock, there’s a trip to match every visitor.
Respecting Country and Culture
Before you start walking, you need to know where you are. Uluru is part of the protected area called Uluru-Kata Tjuta, jointly managed by Parks Australia and the Anangu Traditional Owners. Their stories, known as Tjukurpa (ancestral law), are in every cave, waterhole and ridge. Walking on this land means respecting traditions — do not climb, keeping away from sacred areas and paying attention to the Anangu guides. It’s not just about politeness, it’s central to understanding this land.
- Don’t climb Uluru (the climb closed in 2019)
- Stick to marked walking tracks
- Consider guided walks with rangers or Anangu people
- Always ask respectfully, but remember to listen first
