About uluru trips

You’ve heard of Uluru tours, but many don’t know just how complex and challenging the heart of Australia is. My name is Paul Beames, and I’ve walked, driven and camped across this region more times than I can count. Operators like the team at Autopia Tours run regular Uluru trips, but I’ll tell you now — this isn’t just a quick selfie stop. Uluru isn’t just a landmark, it’s an journey that requires time, respect and a bit of planning. From longer trips from Melbourne, to classic Ayers Rock tours, there’s a tour for everyone.

Culture and Country come first

Before you start walking, you need to know the place you’re in. Uluru is part of the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, jointly managed by the Anangu Traditional Owners together with Parks Australia. Their stories, known as Tjukurpa (ancestral law), are in every rock shelter, spring and ridge. Walking on this land means honouring cultural rules — do not climb, respecting sacred sites and listening when Traditional Owners speak. It’s not just good manners, it’s part of what gives the place its meaning.

- Respect the ban on climbing Uluru (the climb closed in 2019)

- Stay on designated trails

- Join a ranger-guided or Anangu-guided walk if you can

- Ask questions respectfully — and listen more than you talk
